Frequently Asked Questions
- Where do these templates come from?
- Most have been developed and generously donated by members of the wider Zen Cart community. The Classic Template is bundled as part of the current Zen Cart release (1.3.7) and for good measure the previous version of Classic bundled with versions 1.3.0-1.3.0.2 is also included.
- Can I just download a template that I like and use it to build my on-line store?
- Yes. That's part of why they're there. Some of the graphics may be copyrighted. See the Zen Cart Support Site's FAQ for more information on this. And hopefully you will also use the templates as a springboard from which to create your own original designs.
- How did you choose which templates to include?
- Choices were made only when there was a series of templates differing only in a minor way (usually color). In these circumstances a representative template is shown. Other than this, the site demos all the templates designed for the current release of Zen Cart and available for free download from the Zen Cart Support site.
- Have you altered the templates in any way for use on this site?
- The templates have been installed in strict accordance with their installation instructions. Many templates suggest that users change some of the Admin settings, and these changes are simulated via CSS and javascript. Only once has it been necessary to do a completely unrelated hack to persuade a template to play nicely with the demo system and this was done only after carefully checking an installation of the template to ensure that the result would be a faithful representation of what a user would see if they installed it on a fresh install of Zen Cart.
- What do you do if you find and error on a template?
- That depends on the error. Most templates are reasonably robust and to date the errors that have emerged have tended to be cross browser problems affecting most of the templates. In these cases the problem and solution are posted to the Zen Cart Support forum.
- For more specific problems we sometimes help the designer to fix the problem, sometimes they bring solutions to us. In both of these cases the solution is only reflected on the demo system if the designer issues a new release of their template. What you see on this site is as close as we can make it to what you would get if you downloaded and installed the template yourself (warts and all!).
- I'm going to use one of the templates for my store and would like to show my appreciation to the designers. How can I best do this?
- We can't speak for all the designers, but suspect that most would suggest that you make a donation to Zen Cart to help encourage its continued development. You can do that following this link.
